How did you originally come up with the very creative idea to make art out of spiderwebs?
I was always fascinated with spiders and their intricate webs. I thought it would be a perfect home decor. So I decided to try to preserve some webs from our garden. After a couple of tries I've managed to it. We still have my first webs in our home in small vintage frames. I'm really proud of them, because they kick-started my spider web journey. 🕸🕷🕸
Please tell us about the goth frames you use to encase the spider web art.
The frames are a big part of my pieces. I use different styles, sizes, age. I have som new frames, but I prefer to find vintage, antique frames. With my lovely partner we go "treasure hunting" almost every weekend. We go to charity shops, carboot sales and antique shops to find weird and wonderful home decor items and frames for the webs. I have pieces with frames which are over 100 years old, I've made a lot of hand mirrors and vanity sets with webs and I started using webs on different objects too, like for example crucifixes.
Where do you get the spider webs from?
Believe it or not, they all came from my garden. I'm preserving webs now for about a year. I never killed any of my little artists. I'm always careful and wait for the spiders to hide, I never spray their homes, hiding places. I only collect webs once in a week or every two weeks from the same spiders. My best harvest was 30 webs in one day. The average is about 15 webs in one day.
Okay, you probably get asked this question often: Do you dabble in voodoo?
I'd rather not answer this question. I'd like to leave that as a mystery for now. 🦇🕷🦇
